In terms of tips for the competition, I’d suggest starting with frequency analysis as that gives you a pretty good idea for what kind of cipher is being used. Also make sure to read previous parts as part A contains some hint/crib for part B. The title of the challenge is also sometimes the key used to encrypt the cipher.
When it comes to later challenges and things become more tricky, I’d suggest looking at the book by Madness on cryptography and other resources under the ‘BOSS Training Division’:
The book has a lot of information, but it does become very useful in the later challenges and also provides some tips on how to write your own python programs for deciphering. If you ever find yourself spending hrs stuck on a cipher, do take a break and come back to it later.
