PS The difference between a cryptologist and a cryptanalyst is that the first studies codes and ciphers, while the second focusses on cracking them. It is not a major distinction. No-one can be a good cryptanalyst without a good understanding of the theory, and it would be a strange thing to study them without learning to break them too!
