@bridges The score is calculated depending on the number of hints used.
Each challenge displays the max number of points you can get. Every time you press the hint button, it will confirm how many points are lost for using each hint. There are multiple hints per challenge, each one revealing slightly more information than the previous one. I strongly encourage using hints, especially for the harder ciphers.
It is still better (and scores higher) to solve more challenges with hints than fewer challenges without hints, max points increase with difficulty.
