I understand that part B of this weeks cipher involves two encryptions. But for the life of me I cannot work out whether this second unknown encryption comes before or after the one I know. As for the one I know, I am confident I know the key as I am getting a fair few correct characters, but their spacing is irregular which confuses me even more as to this second cypher’s key length.

If anyone who has solved it could give me a little hint as to what this other cypher could be, that would be much appreciated.

Interesting! I should say that when we post, or don’t post, reflections on a live challenge we are neither confirming nor denying the conclusions in them, but we like the way they show your thinking process. In general we are likely to delay questions or hints so they can’t affect the scores. We are happy to moderate them so please free to post, but we won’t guarantee to put them up before the end of the challenge. Harry

There could be a few ways to go about interpreting the irregular spacing. You could either have more than one cipher, or maybe the cipher you’re dealing with isn’t completely your standard case? Think about the encryption process, and in particular, the mapping of the letters, perhaps the cipher isn’t being quite as fair as it usually is…
