    @Bookluvr18

    As outlined earlier in post #114809, you can deduce that 7C -> R. So at this stage it would be reasonable to believe that you’re dealing with digraphs instead of a one-to-one character mapping.

    It might also be worth looking at previous years’ 10B challenges which you can find thanks to Madness in his GitHub archive

    As Harry mentioned elsewhere on the forum, he’s not a fan of copying something he’s done before, so this could be a useful way of ruling out a few possibilities of what the cipher might not be. At the very least, it can offer a change of perspective on the cipher.

    From CF 10.4, we think that we are just slightly ahead of the clues, but still have not made any headway in the last few days. We’re really stumped on how to turn the cards into letters, so would love to see a hint on that tomorrow (If you’re feeling generous that is, Harry!).

    From 10.4, we think:
    1) The areas of the other squares that share sides with the triangle are 36 and 16 (36 + 16 = 52)
    2) We think we know how to split the deck into two sets of 36 and 16 (this seems to fit with the clue)
    3) The four cards shown (XD/AS/2C/KS) are the next 4 cards after ones that could perhaps represent REPORT (CF 10.2) but this doesn’t tell us much as to what letters these 4 cards could represent

    We are still a bit skeptical that the cards will translate directly into plaintext, but it would be nice just to have letters!

    @Gen_ruikt

    When dealing with cards, it’s quite common to cut the deck. Cutting it evenly however, is optional, as sometimes you might want to partition the cards in a way that preserves the shape and still adds up to the full 52.

    Pythagoras theorem… cards… bigram analysis…
    It all links up to form the text…
    but what cipher is it? That is the question we have been having since day 1.

    Harry I’ve known for a while that it could be a 4×13 Playfair grid and the letters on it you get from coordinates using the 17 unique characters. But this case files 10.3 have revealed playing cards – now its obvious: A – ace, J – jack, K – king, Q – queen, X – 10, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, C – clubs, D – diamonds, S – spades, H – hearts. But I still don’t understand the meaning of it all and how to actually decrypt. Harry please remove as much as you want but please just let the message through. At this rate it will be an unmerry sleepless christmas

    10B has even taken over my hobbies – I now play bridge in breaks in cipher-solving and other pursuits.
    Seeing decks of cards in my sleep…

    Same with us. Using phrases (like there is/are/were…) doesn’t give us anything.

    Could pairs of cards be equal to one letter?

    I second what you posted, I’ve been sat with that same information since
    my post on 19th December #114660, when I thought it was a solitaire cipher
    but no Jacks in data, case file 10.4 has added some fuel to work on but
    like most others I am still stumped at the momment.

    My laptop will remain off and folded from Christmas Eve for 3 days.

    Grids… squares… seems to be a common theme here. Here’s a question which I think might help- what makes you assume it’s one grid and not two..?

    Harry, is 10.5 coming out today? P.S Merry Christmas to Harry, Jodie et al

    Yes, you should see it. Email if there is a problem! Thank you, Harry

    Harry if you could describe all the steps to complete the cipher in 4 words, what would it be. Mine is suffer, don’t sleep, repeat

    This is a polite enquiry as to whether CF 10.5 is running fashionably late…

    Seems to be. The Elves are on a skeleton crew with the sleigh run underway. You should be able to see it now. Harry
