This took me a good long while to crack, and a good chunk of that was trying to find what this cipher is called!

I hope one of the folk involved posts what the name of the cipher is as well as the solution on Thursday. Even if it’s just a houseruled variant on the similar (but not the same) ciphers that my searches are getting me.

    Dear Harry,

Can we please get some help. We are struggling very much

[Do read the tips published here in the forum (we have a couple more good ones to publish soon, too, and research classical ciphers on the web to see what you can find! Good luck, Harry]

At first I thought of a columnar transposition with alternating rising and descending columns.
I lost a lot of time.

    [Nice idea though. Harry]

    Where are the hints please?

[The hints from other competitors on this forum thread have been so good we have just been posting them instead of our own hints, so read the thread carefully and see what you can glean! Best wishes and good luck, Harry]

My first thought on seeing the frequency analysis here was Vigenere. It’s not, but looking at even-numbered strings (strings of every 2nd letter, every 4th letter, etc) did reveal something about those letters.

As for the other half? No idea.

Imagine that Harry writes to Jodie:
Half of the letters are clear. There are still the “ups” to decipher.

    I’ve been thinking…

If Neo is The One, and he went for a climb up a hill, how many ones would be in the Matrix?

Does the road wind up-hill all the way?
    Yes, to the very end.
Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.

But is there for the night a resting-place?
A roof for when the slow dark hours begin.
May not the darkness hide it from my face?
    You cannot miss that inn.

Shall I meet other wayfarers at night?
    Those who have gone before.
Then must I knock, or call when just in sight?
They will not keep you standing at that door.

Shall I find comfort, travel-sore and weak?
Of labour you shall find the sum.
Will there be beds for me and all who seek?
Yea, beds for all who come.

How many for the hill? They go up 2 by 2 lets count, one, erm one, ho and another one! Crazy? But now you get to read what you want!
