    Hey @Robb27 that was a good one 😉

    I was trying to make one up myself when I posted, but I was wanting it to be relevant
    to the story or the competition anyway here now is my efforts:

    um is there any way to see past submissions? me and my team want to record everything so we can refer back?

    Good idea, you will find all your submission under the achievements tab in your account, where you can also find certificates. Harry

    Most word processing apps – even Notepad – allow you to make use of ctrl+f to find and replace. Could I use this to decode a monolaphabetic cipher, or is that cheating?

    We would not only allow it, we would encourage it! Harry

    @AES_of_spades
    I guess you may know, so more for anyone reading your post #111009 … you would need to search/replace from say upper to lower case matching by exact case, otherwise you might run in to problems.

    Excellent advice! Harry

    Hi!

    In terms of tips for the competition, I’d suggest starting with frequency analysis as that gives you a pretty good idea for what kind of cipher is being used. Also make sure to read previous parts as part A contains some hint/crib for part B. The title of the challenge is also sometimes the key used to encrypt the cipher.

    When it comes to later challenges and things become more tricky, I’d suggest looking at the book by Madness on cryptography and other resources under the ‘BOSS Training Division’:

    The book has a lot of information, but it does become very useful in the later challenges and also provides some tips on how to write your own python programs for deciphering. If you ever find yourself spending hrs stuck on a cipher, do take a break and come back to it later.

    That’s all for now, but as always, keep an eye out for updates in the case files and post on the forum.

    All the best!

    (Harry, feel free to edit this post as needed!)

    Thanks Shub, this is great! Harry

    Honestly, I didn’t see a 459 page book purely on ciphers coming our way. Thanks for the book Crackerjack_404!
